SORONA polymer is primarily made from two key raw materials: 1,3-propanediol (PDO) and PTA (or DMT), with PDO accounting for 37% of the total feedstock. PDO can be produced through either petrochemical processes or bio-fermentation. DuPont adopts the latter method, utilizing corn sugar fermentation to produce PDO, which reduces reliance on petrochemical feedstocks and lowers energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
